Wondering if Sony Catalyst Browse lists SGamut/SLog2 as 'User defined curve9'

#9 Hi folks, I instructed a shooter with an FS7 to shoot in SGamut3.cine/SLog3, but I'm almost certain that the footage I got back is SGamut/SLog2. Catalyst Browse is telling me that the capture gamma is User defined curve9. How cryptic! Can anyone confirm that User defined curve9 is indeed SGamut/SLog2? Thanks, Seth Goldin Washington, D.C. |
#10 As I recall, in addition to the standard set of gammas the FS7 allows you to load custom gamma curves. 'User defined curve 9' would seem to be one of those... (If there's no signature it means I have the signature screwed up on the web interface....) |
#11 In theory, a 'user defined curve' is just that - something the user created with a program (Catalyst Browse for example) or downloaded from someone who did and then loaded it into the camera. Without a more descriptive name, I'm not sure if it is identifiable beyond that through some sort of reverse engineering. Steven Gruen Paris, France |

Unfortunately it seems that Sony is somewhat opaque when it comes to any API for XAVC, so I don't believe Resolve has any such access to reading metadata from the files. As far as I know, Catalyst programs like Browse or Prepare provide the only way to read the metadata. |

I’ve used LUTCalc to create an SLog3 to LC709A LUT in the past. With the various customization features it has, it’s very simple to add a gamma tweak. Stuart Brereton |

There are all sorts of metadata in XAVC-I and XAVC-S that are not accessible in Resolve's Metadata panel, but those metadata are indeed available in Catalyst Browse and Catalyst Prepare. I usually shoot Slog3/S-Gamut3.cine and don't usually have a problem in Resolve but I know getting footage from others can be a nightmare.
